Miele Washing Machine Making a Rattling Noise

30th December 2025

A customer in Armidale recently called John Crawford Appliance Repairs about a Miele washing machine making a loud rattling noise at the end of each cycle.

John attended the job and checked the drain pump, which showed signs of not working properly. Thinking this might be the issue, the pump was replaced and tested. At first, everything seemed fine, but the noise returned after a few washes.

What Was Really Causing the Noise?

The machine was brought into the workshop for a closer look. After running another cycle and checking the filter again, John found a small rock jammed in the pump impeller. It had likely entered the machine with a load of clothes and worked its way through the system.

The rock was carefully removed, and the machine was tested through four full wash cycles to make sure there were no other blockages. It ran quietly and smoothly.

Extra Step for Peace of Mind

Even though the rock was the main issue, the drain pump motor was also replaced as a precaution. The original motor wasn’t performing well and could have caused more problems later on.
