Bosch Combination Oven - Microwave Shutdown After 3 Seconds

22nd July 2025

We recently assessed a Bosch combination oven that was shutting down just three seconds after starting the microwave function. This is a complex fault we’ve seen before,

The fault code shown on the appliance display was not what was wrong with this appliance, but it did help identify the extent of the internal damage.

Diagnosing the Problem

Microwave ovens generate extremely high voltages and should only be handled by experienced, qualified technicians. At John Crawford Appliance Repairs, we have over 30 years of experience working on high-voltage appliances, including built-in and combination microwave ovens.

In this Bosch model, one of the key faults was a short circuit in the filament of the magnetron - the component responsible for generating microwave energy. Unfortunately, this kind of electrical short caused a surge that damaged multiple printed circuit boards within the appliance.

Outcome: Beyond Economical Repair

Given the extent of the internal damage and the cost of replacing both the magnetron and multiple circuit boards, we determined that the oven was beyond economical repair. In situations like this, we always provide honest advice and help customers understand their most cost-effective options.

Safety and Experience Matter

Microwave repairs are never DIY tasks - even after being unplugged, the internal components can retain dangerous electrical charges. That’s why it’s essential to rely on experienced technicians who understand the risks and the workings of these high-voltage systems.
